Registration Information

• Pre-registration is required for the State tournament
• Teams must register as a group.
• FEE DEADLINE: Registration fees need to be postmarked by February 4th. Fees will NOT be accepted the day of the tournament.
• REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration forms must be received by Friday Feb 3rd. If you have trouble downloading a registration form, email Tammy Burkhart at jtburk@charter.net and she'll help you.
• Registration fees:
  • Registration fee is $15 for each wrestler.
  • Registration fees must be combined into one check per club - each club must submit ONE (1) check payable to AYWA.
  • The registration check can be delivered to Tammy Burkhart at the seeding meeting or can be mailed to the address below.
• Registration forms: We offer three ways to register: fax, email, or snail mail.
  • Double check that your wrestlers are listed on their correct age group sheet.
  • Clubs must register as a group. We're asking this because of the team awards presented this year.
  • Excel spreadsheet file. Click here for an Excel spreadsheet file workbook containing four (4) separate registration sheets - one for each age group (Bantam, Midget, Novice, and School Boy). UPDATED 2/01/06
  • PDF files. There are four PDF files available: (Adobe Acrobat is required to read PDF files)

Tournament Information

• Wrestlers can only wrestle one age and one weight in the State tournament.
• Participants must be residents of the State of Alabama and have NOT competed on a middle school wrestling team.
• If a wrestler does not make the weight for which he/she registered, there will be a $100 re-bracketing fee. (That's not a typo - there is a $100 re-bracketing fee.)
• There is a seeding meeting on Saturday February 4th immediately following the high school state finals. The meeting will be held at the Shoney's on Hwy 119. Coaches only!
• Seeding will be determined by true tournament results from this year. If a wrestler chooses to wrestle a different weight class than he/she has wrestled all year, the wrestler will not be seeded.
• Trophies will be awarded for 1st through 4th place.
• Other awards. These are determined by the 1st through 4th place finishers in each weight class:
  • Team awards for Bantam, Midget, Novice and Schoolboy.
  • Overall team awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
• Admission for the state tournament is $3.00 adult and $1.00 for kids
• Concession stand will be available. NO COOLERS ALLOWED.
• 6 mats will be used for the tournament. Finals will run on 4 mats. One mat per age group.
• We are looking for an Alabama wrestler to sing the National Anthem for finals. If you know of a wrestler who would be interested, please contact Tammy Burkhart by February 3rd.
• Hospitality room will be available for coaches and officials only.
• We will be holding another raffle this year during the tournament, asking $2 per ticket. Please encourage your teams to participate.

From South of Shelby County to Thompson Middle School

• Merge onto I-65 NORTH.
• Take the US-31 exit- EXIT 238- toward ALABASTER. Go 0.2 miles
• Turn LEFT onto US-31 N/AL-3 N/MONTGOMERY HWY. Continue to follow US-31 N/AL-3 N. Go 0.7 miles
• Turn LEFT onto AL-119/MONTEVALLO RD and cross over large RR tracks. Go 1.9 miles.
• Turn RIGHT onto CR-26/KENT DAIRY RD. Go 0.6 miles.
• End at Thompson Middle School, 1509 Kent Dairy Rd, Alabaster, AL 35007-5243 US. School is on a hill.

From North of Shelby County to Thompson Middle School

• Merge onto I-65 SOUTH toward MONTGOMERY.
• Merge onto US-31 N/AL-3 N via EXIT 238 toward SAGINAW/ALABASTER (right turn). Go 0.8 miles.
• Turn LEFT onto US-31 N/AL-3 N/MONTGOMERY HWY. Continue to follow US-31 N/AL-3 N. Go 0.7 miles
• Turn LEFT onto AL-119/MONTEVALLO RD and cross over large RR tracks. Go 1.9 miles.
• Turn RIGHT onto CR-26/KENT DAIRY RD. Go 0.6 miles.
